About Universal FAFSA in New York
Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, New York State is making FAFSA completion universal for high school seniors. This legislation requires school districts to ensure every high school senior completes the FAFSA or NYS DREAM Act application, with the option for students to submit a waiver if they opt-out. All students will still be able to graduate regardless of whether they complete the FAFSA or the NYS DREAM Act.
The goal of Universal FAFSA in New York is to increase access to federal and state financial aid, helping more students secure funding to pursue their higher education goals.
