As the Regional Advising Manager, Silmady is responsible for managing a team of College Affordability advisors in New York. Her main goal is to ensure the team is set up for success by cultivating a positive, supportive, and equitable culture. Prior to joining uAspire, Silmady worked at Queens Community House for nearly four years in different departments. She served students and families in district 30 as the Community School Director at P.S.149. In addition, she worked as an intern supervisor and College Success Counselor at the College Access and Success Program. Silmady earned her B.S. in Psychology & M.S.Ed in School Counseling from Queens College. As a community college first-generation minority student, I encountered a lack of support and essential resources that every college student should have when navigating the financial aid process. This experience led me to have a passion for helping students with low-income status regarding their affordability planning and financial aid application. Luckily, uAspire is changing this narrative, and it is incredible to be a part of an organization that focuses on providing and advocating for minority students to succeed in their post-secondary path.
