[uAspire]’s Jerry Henry receives National Award for Excellence in the College Access Field

Boston – October 12, 2010 – [uAspire] is very proud to announce that its own Jerry Henry, Director of its High School Advising Program, was named the winner of  the 2010 Dr. David B. Swedlow Memorial College Access Staff Member Award of Excellence at the National College Access Network annual conference in Washington D.C. on Monday, October 11, 2010.

Jerry Henry has been working to provide Boston students with an affordable path to college for the past seven years. During his time at [uAspire], Jerry has risen from Financial Aid Advisor, to Program Manager, to his current role as Program Director, overseeing the financial aid advising in 42 Boston high schools, serving nearly 3,000 young people and families each year. Born in Jamaica, and an alumnus of Noble & Greenough High School and the Upward Bound Program, Jerry received a degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst before obtaining his Masters from Northeastern in technological entrepreneurship.

The Dr. David B. Swedlow Memorial College Access Staff Member Award of Excellence is a national award that recognizes the dedication, hard work and innovation of one person annually from among the thousands of college access programs throughout the US. This award is named in honor of Dr. David B. Swedlow, a practitioner who dedicated his life’s work to helping students achieve their dream of a college education.

Our Board of Trustees, our staff and I have long known the impact that Jerry has had not only on our organization, but on the thousands of students and families who have relied on him to make their college dreams come true.
