uAspire Expands Massachusetts Board with Education Finance Expert

brendan_coughlinBOSTON – uAspire, a nonprofit organization committed to ensuring that young people have an affordable path to and through college, today announced the election of Brendan Coughlin of RBS Citizens Financial Group (RBSCFG) to its Massachusetts Board of Directors.

Brendan is President of the Education Finance Division at RBS Citizens Financial Group, which operates as Citizens Bank in New England. In this role, Brendan leads the company’s private student loan business and its student banking and deposit products. Under Brendan’s leadership, RBSCFG has increased its private loan originations by more than 50% and has become the fastest growing student lender in the United States.

Brendan is joining uAspire’s newly-formed Massachusetts Board of Directors. As uAspire is growing its impact on a national level, the local Board of Directors will ensure quality service and management across its three sites in Massachusetts – Boston, Springfield, and Lawrence.

Brendan’s previous nonprofit board experience includes serving on the Board of Directors for Operation HOPE in Boston, a financial literacy non-profit for inner city youth.

Prior to his role with Education Finance, Brendan was the Head of Marketing for the Consumer Finance Division at RBSCFG. Brendan has a wide range of expertise in Mortgage, Home Equity, Education Finance, Indirect Auto, Credit Card, and Unsecured Credit. He has been with RBSCFG for eight years and has held numerous positions in Consumer Banking Product Management and Consumer Finance. Prior to joining RBSCFG, Brendan worked at Bank of America and FleetBoston Financial in a variety of roles including Corporate Strategy, Mortgage Product Management, and Retail Distribution.

Brendan attended high school at Boston College High School and has an undergraduate degree from Boston College in finance and marketing. He holds an M.B.A from Babson College. He lives in Needham, MA, with his wife Courtney and son Chase.
