Last Wednesday, WBUR 90.9 FM in Boston began a series entitled “Paying for College.” During the next few months, WBUR will follow the story of Emily Soto, a senior at Edward Kennedy Academy for Health Careers, as she decides which college she will attend next fall. Emily is the first in her family to go to college, her parents having arrived in the United States from the Dominican Republic the year before she was born. Emily has been active in high school – from serving as president of her school’s branch of the National Honor Society to starting a club to raise money and awareness about teen dating violence – and she has kept her grades up during the last four years. Ready for college academically, Emily will now make one of the biggest decisions of her life – choosing a college that she will be able to afford.

Listen to Emily’s story, reported by Monica Brady-Myerov, and stay tuned for the next installment of this series presented by WBUR. A link to WBUR’s story can be found here.
