SVGives: How you can help Bay Area students successfully enroll in college! 🎓📱

By: Simone Shorter | Wednesday, April 27, 2016

uAspire Bay Area is thrilled to announce our participation in Silicon Valley Gives (SVGives) on May 3!

What is SVGives?
SVGives is an annual, 24-hour marathon of giving. Hosted by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, it’s a chance for everyone in our community to support local nonprofits in raising millions of dollars for high-impact initiatives.

What is uAspire’s campaign goal?
We aim to raise $40,000 to deliver the most innovative part of uAspire’s work—our summertime advising, which is cleverly and efficiently conducted via text-message! And it makes a statistically significant positive impact on college enrollment!

Check out our very short video overview and campaign page to learn more!

How can you support students?
1) Consider making a contribution—of any size—to the campaign. uAspire’s text-messaged summer advising only costs $36 per student! We’d love for you to help ensure that all 1,115 of our 12th grade advisees get this guidance.

If you are unavailable to donate on May 3, you can make a donation on our campaign page on any day leading up to the event.

2) Spread the word about uAspire’s campaign and our work. Please forward this email to your network! And share, like, and retweet our Facebook and Twitter posts about the campaign! We’ve also provided some sample tweets and posts below.

The scoop on summer texting

The challenge for students:

Every year, in communities around the country, 10% to 40% of recent high school graduates who’ve made a plan for college fall through the cracks over the summer after high school graduation. In a phenomenon called “summer melt,” many high school graduates who have been admitted to and chosen a college don’t succeed at enrolling. Keep reading on our campaign page to learn why.

uAspire’s solution:

We use Signal Vine’s automated texting platform to send students personalized reminders of all the steps they must complete for their particular college in order to start there in the fall—like signing off on loans and paying their first term bill—and answer their many questions along the way!

Our innovative text-message-based outreach has proven in uAspire’s other sites to counteract summer melt, increasing college enrollment by as much as a statistically significant 15%!
