A Photo Diary of uAspire FAFSA Day 2016

On Monday, January 4, uAspire re-opened after the holiday break by hosting our annual FAFSA Day in our Boston headquarters. Below are some photo highlights from the event.

uAspire’s office was decorated and ready first thing in the morning to greet students as they arrived.

And arrive they did. We saw a steady flow of students throughout the day, meaning we often had quite the crowd lined up to check in.

Thankfully, our partners at State Street supplied a crew of wonderful volunteers to cheerfully greet students and help coordinate the traffic.

Thanks so much for the support, State Street! We’re so proud to be a part of the Boston WINs network, doing our part to help the city’s students achieve postsecondary success!

Once students were checked in and had completed preliminary steps such as creating an FSA ID, they were ushered into our Lavine Family Center for College Affordability. Monday marked the programmatic launch of this space, named for our incredibly generous supporters, Jonathan and Jeannie Lavine.

Our favorite part of the space is how it highlights our most important organizational value; each column displays a definition of what we believe it means to be Student-Centered — written out in different languages throughout the room to reflect the diversity of our students.

Each student who attended the event had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a member of our team of College Affordability Advisors to complete their FAFSA.

Some students brought their parents or guardians to help with the process.

In total, our Boston advising team served 134 students over the course of the day!

fafsa day!

uAspire is thrilled to have been able to reach as many students as we did on Monday, but we’re far from satisfied. The team will be active in high schools across the city throughout the spring as well as host walk-in hours every Tuesday evening from 3:00 – 6:00 PM, now through the end of April. We aim to make sure all of Boston’s high school seniors, like those below, can say they “Finished my FAFSA.”

Thanks to all who made uAspire’s 2016 FAFSA Day possible! Nothing inspires us more than working with talented and excited students on days like this.
