Gov. Patrick, uAspire First One Winners Announced

By: Chris Loney | Wednesday, October 10, 2012

uAspire is pleased to announce the newest addition to our class of uAspire First One Award Winners – Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts. Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, Governor Patrick would then earn his degree from Harvard – the first in his family to graduate from college – on his way to becoming the first African-American governor of Massachusetts.

Governor Patrick joins an amazing group of leaders who all share one thing in common – being in the first generation of their families to graduate from college.  These uAspire First One Award Winners have all made a powerful impact the community:

  • Erica Brown – Executive Director, City on a Hill
  • Wayne Budd – Senior Counsel, Goodwin Procter
  • Magnolia Contreras – Director of Community Benefits, Dana Farber Cancer Institute
  • Bob Karam – Principal, Karam Financial Group
  • Victor Lee – Vice President Digital Brand Marketing, Hasbro

Over the next few months, we will share the stories of our uAspire First One Award Winners on our blog and our Facebook page. By sharing stories of influential “First Ones,” the uAspire First One Awards show how important it is that higher education remains an affordable option for all.

Our six uAspire First One Award Winners have strengthened our community through their work, talent, and innovation. Millions more young people today also have so much to offer – and that’s why it’s so important that an affordable college education remains available to them.
