Greater Boston Real Estate Board and Nonprofit uAspire Expand Scholarship Fund
BOSTON – The Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB), in its second year of partnering with Massachusetts nonprofit uAspire, today announced the launch of this year’s scholarship program. Through this fund, GBREB will award more than $100,000 in scholarships to approximately 60 students from 54 cities and towns throughout Eastern Massachusetts. This year, GBREB is doubling the amount given in 2012. Scholarships will be based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, extra-curricular involvement, and written essays.
“College is expensive, and the members of Greater Boston Real Estate Board decided to impact the lives of students through knowledge, by helping them finance their educational dreams and build for their futures,” said Greg Vasil, CEO of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, a trade organization with more than 8,000 members. “We know that scholarships help students achieve the success that will better their lives, and ultimately, their communities – the communities where our members live and work. That’s why we are so excited to make such a big difference in the lives of so many students by doubling the amount that we will give this year through this scholarship.”
Daphney Lachapelle, a first-year student at Providence College, received a GBREB scholarship in 2012. “Because of the GBREB Scholarship, I know firsthand that there are people willing to help me make my dream come true and make college affordable for my family and me,” said Daphney, who is studying Psychology. “I am grateful for receiving this scholarship because it has given me the opportunity to be the first in my family to receive a higher education, while also relieving my mother of a financial burden.”
“Far too often, finances stand in the way of young people going to college – it’s the number one barrier for students and their families today,” said uAspire CEO Bob Giannino-Racine. “At uAspire, we work one-on-one with students to help them put together a financial plan for college. Every dollar in financial aid, scholarships or grant money that we can help a student secure is another step closer towards reaching the dream of a college degree. We are so proud to partner with the Greater Boston Real Estate Board again, and we applaud their efforts to increase their investment in college-going youth throughout Greater Boston.”

This scholarship, offered through the Greater Boston Real Estate Board Foundation, continues that commitment to education, and extends it to women and men who are pursuing their dream of receiving a college education.
